With Dokky version 2.0.4 we introduced a New Feature that changes the way the Forum handles its daily conversations.

We're not talking about a classic sidebar chatbot, nor an anonymous widget: we're talking about a "Real User", visible like all the others, who only joins discussions when called upon.

The idea stems from a specific question you asked, which made us reflect on the ways and possibilities of using Artificial Intelligence in a suite like Dokky. Forums are Social Spaces, and Social Communication doesn't happen in isolated windows or pop-ups that interrupt the flow: it happens within threads, among people, in the natural rhythm of discussions. Therefore, after careful and thoughtful brainstorming, we decided to integrate AI into that rhythm, without disrupting or altering it.

In practice, when someone mentions "@Dokky", the AI receives the necessary context of the thread: title, main content, latest replies, and the user's language. The choosed model processes all of this and returns a response that is consistent with the tone of the conversation.

It doesn't try to dominate the conversation, it doesn't talk to itself, and it doesn't deviate from the topic: it contributes, as a normal community member would.

From the admin panel, it's possible to define the general character of the AI: more technical, more conversational, more concise, or more expansive. You can choose the model to use and decide how much of the thread the AI should see to orient itself. The personality is not a fixed mask: it can be refined over time, as if modeling the behavior of a new collaborator who needs to understand the group's style.

An important element is the pace. A fast AI risks "invading" the space, which is why Dokky respects precise limits: it intervenes only when called upon and does not respond beyond a certain frequency, making the experience natural even during periods of intense activity. The result is a balance where the AI doesn't become the protagonist, but remains a discreet presence that intervenes when needed.

The interesting part is how versatile this dynamic is

  1. In a technical forum, Dokky can clarify complex concepts for newcomers, integrating into the discussion without transforming it into a support session.
  2. In a culinary environment, it can suggest practical solutions to common mistakes.
  3. In sections dedicated to books, comics, or creative projects, it can suggest relevant readings or ideas, as a passionate member of the community would.
  4. And in multilingual forums, it becomes an immediate tool to include users who would otherwise remain on the sidelines.

And so on...

All this doesn't replace the human core of the community: it strengthens it.

The AI doesn't leave the thread, doesn't create parallel conversations, doesn't open external windows. It stays there, at the same table as the others, and participates when someone asks for its opinion.

The truth is that Dokky Suite has always built a robust technical foundation: Documents, Automations, IPFS, Workflows, Privacy, Performance. With this version, the next step is not "to do more", but "to make the space where people interact live better".

It's not a feature designed to impress: it's designed to be natural.

And, like all the functions of the Suite, it's not magic; it's simply a new way to integrate intelligent tools without distorting the communities that host them.
